Learning in Retirement Association (LIRA)

LIRA is a peer learning program that provides quality educational and cultural opportunities for retired or semi-retired persons who enjoy pursuing new knowledge, enhancing existing interests, and designing their own curriculum. Peer learning and active participation are key concepts of the program. The basic offering is an 8 week study group proposed, planned, and coordinated by LIRA members. Trips and outings to museums, concerts, plays, and sites of interest are common features of study groups. Members also raise money for two scholarships at UMass Lowell and donate to the children at Community Teamwork during the holidays. These donations are warm head wear, gloves, mittens and children’s reading books. LIRA is affiliated with The Elderhostel Institute Network.
